ABOUT
Adelista Widjaya (Dela) is an Indonesian-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based multimedia designer with over 9 years of experience across branding strategy, visual experience & communication, and digital content production. Alongside her design work, she is actively involved in cultural programs and collaborative projects within Indonesia and Melbourne’s arts and community spaces.
-
Dela’s practice is rooted in graphic design, particularly hierarchy, layout, and visual systems. She enjoys projects that don’t necessarily start with everything figured out — working with what is already there, decluttering the space, finding ways, making connections, and shaping it into something that makes sense! Her work tends to sit somewhere between structure and expression, where function is important, but not at the expense of meaning.
She approaches each project by listening closely, understanding what is already in place, and looking at the situation from different angles. Rather than imposing a fixed approach, she adapts to the people, resources, and context around the work, helping shape outcomes that feel considered, useful, and true to what they need.
-
Dela has worked across both corporate and grassroots contexts, including Richmond Rolling Solutions and Changi Airport Group, while staying closely involved in Melbourne’s arts communities. She regularly performs with Gamelan DanAnda (a Balinese music community orchestra) and takes dance classes at O2 Dance Studios. These experiences naturally feed into her sensitivity to rhythm, movement, collaboration and how different elements work together.
-
Having grown up in Indonesia and now practicing in Melbourne, Dela’s work is also shaped by her ability to move between different culture, structure, resources and visual languages. She is interested in how different aesthetics, generations, and communities can coexist within the same visual world without everything needing to look or feel the same.
-
This has, somewhat accidentally, been Dela’s branding since she was 12. The alias was given by her dance coach who simply thought Dela’s hair looked like Avril Lavigne’s. (At that time Dela didn’t even know who that was. The name stuck anyway).
